Kutsurogu (くつろぐ)

Point at which the performers stop performing momentarily and face the audience. The performers may sit in the kōkenza with their backs facing the crowd, and the hayashikata will step down from the shōgi. Special performances of the Noh plays Tōru and Suma Genji include kutsurogi, which in this case refers to the shite’s movement toward the hashigakari while dancing haya mai, momentary stop, and then return to the main stage.
