Hakobi (運ビ)

A basic step in Noh and kyōgen. Hakobi essentially refers to a step in which the sole of the foot slides along the floor, and is used in phrases such as “a heavy Hakobi” or “a light Hakobi.” Hakobi can also be used in reference to the overall pace of the performance, where it is used in phrases such as “speed up the Hakobi of the chant.”
