Yūken (ユウケン)

One of the forms in Noh and kyōgen. An opened fan is taken in the right hand and moved up and down in a large motion from in front of the chest up and to the right on the diagonal. Yūken is used to express happiness or excitement, anger, or courage. While usually done with the right hand, sometimes both hands are used. Can also be written with the kanji meaning “courageous” and “healthy.”
