Kake-ai (掛合)

Parts sung by one character and another, or one character and the ji-utai, typically performed out of rhythm. Where the kake-ai are performed with the shite and waki facing each other, typically the tempo rises and falls with each verse.Vocals addressing another performer are called kakaru or seru, but the term Kakeai may also be used to distinguish a specific vocal part after the partner’s response.
