Torikabuto (鳥兜)

The torikabuto, or “bird helmet” is an elegant headpiece worn by actors performing a dance. Shaped like the head of a phoenix, the shikoro, the fabric that hangs from the side of the headpiece, covers the collar like wings, giving the hat its name. Torikabuto are typically made of multiple opulent materials including thick paper and brocade. Torikabuto are worn by the shite in Shirahige, Dōmyōji, Umegae and Fujidaiko.
