A long-sleeved garment worn by male characters. There are lined and unlined happi, with lined happi used for demons, samurai and other strong roles, and the unlined version used for elegant, refined roles such as gallant warriors. Patterns appropriate to the costume are woven often with golden thread. The sleeves are folded inward to expose the armour, or the unworn, folded right sleeve may be tucked into the hip, a style known as ebira, or “quiver.”
