A type of lined kosode, or short-sleeved kimono, worn as the innermost layer of the costumes of male characters of lesser standing. Noshime are made from nerinuki cloth, a type of hiraori, or plain weave, in which the weft, the width wise thread, is woven through the lengthwise warp. Noshime include plain, or solid noshime, banded noshime and checked noshime with a plaid-like pattern. Noshime are also often used in kyōgen.
