One type of kazura, or wig, worn by the performers. Traditionally made of yak hair. The bangs are worn draped across the forehead, with the hair falling to the shoulders and long down the back. The hair of the shirogashira is white, giving it its name. In Noh, this mask is traditionally worn by roles such as aged spirits, and in kyōgen only rarely, such as by the shite Tokoro. In addition to the shirogashira, there are akagashira and kurogashira (red and black kashira), which are also used depending on the role and performance. Shirogashira or Hakutō is also the name of a kogaki, indicating a special performance.
