Koshimaki (腰巻)

One way of wearing a Noh costume. Koshimaki, where the costume is wrapped around the waist, is often used for female characters in Noh, such as the tennyo in Hagoromo. Kosode such as nuihaku are wrapped over a kitsuke such as surihaku, with both sleeves draped down the back unworn and the unworn top half wrapped around the waist. In the Noh plays Aoi no Ue and Dojōji, the costume worn by the shite is always black with a crest and worn in the koshimaki style, with costumes always worn in the style known themselves as koshimaki.
