One of the forms in Noh and kyōgen. The tip of the paper of an opened fan is held with the left hand and the whole fan held to the inside left of the chest, so the left side of the face is covered. The face is also angled slightly at the same time, and the actor sits on one knee. The makura no ōgi is often used to portray sleep, looking down, or hiding. It is seen at the end of the Noh play Shōjō to depict, “slipping into drunkenness and dreams on a pillow.”
