Monogise (物着せ)

The act of placing the costume on the performer. Kitsuke generally means simply means to put on clothing, however in Noh and kyōgen, it refers to the kimono with narrow cuffs worn as the bottommost layer of the costume. Long ago, there were people who specialized in dressing actors, known as monogisekata, but now the actors themselves, including the shitekata, wakikata and kyōgenkata, dress each other. Costume changes that take place on stage are known as monogi.
