Opened in the Sakyōku ward of Kyoto in 1958, this Nohgaku theatre is the home of the Kanze School of Noh. In addition to the regular monthly meeting of the Kyoto Kanze School and yearly performance of Kyoto Kanze Noh, there are numerous lectures held by Noh teachers throughout the year. The kenjo holds 355 on the first floor and 119 on the second, all chair seating. The old pine tree, or oimatsu painted on the lining board, the kagami ita, was painted by the Kyoto artist Dōmoto Inshō, a traditional Japanese painter (1891-1975). The theater holds many beginner lectures as well, and is popular among visitors.
