The basic unit of the Noh music rhythm is a simple octuple measure, and the rhythm is called honji. To reflect increases and decreases of characters in the lyrics, or to adjust the rhythms, several variants of the unit are used, with duple, quadruple or sextuple measures. These are called okuri, tori and kataji, respectively. The handclap in the rhythm is also sometimes called okuri, tori or kataji.
