Edo-dan (江戸段)

A type of dan-noshime. It has wide coloured stripes with fine checkerboard horizontal patterns. The fine patterns are sometimes used only for the stripes at the waist but sometimes for all stripes. The usage is the same as that of dan-noshime, but the impression is of a higher rank, since it requires some time to create. The colour and width vary, depending on the character. Edo-dan is a kind of awase (kimono with a lining). It is often used in Kyōgen.
