Refers to the motoyui used to bind the roots of wig hair when tying it to the performer’s head, with the beautiful, strong fibre part of hemp, ‘seima’, twisted into a cord. In modern times, commercially available hemp cord is also used as a substitute. Since ancient times, seima has been widely used in daily life, including for Shinto rituals, but the handmade domestic material is now costly. In Noh, it is also used for the tension strings of drums.
