Ageōgi (上扇)

A form in Noh and kyōgen. In the ogeōgi, or “rising fan” form, the hinge of the opened fan is held between the thumb and other four fingers of the opened right hand, held vertically in front of the chest, moved upward, and then moved downward to the right. This form places a segue in the flow of the play, and is often found in the yakuutai (upper part) or small paragraphs that characterize Noh, or at the start of a dance.
