One of the hayashigoto of Noh (a part of the play where the hayashi plays the main role). While shidai are used during the entrance of various characters, the tempo and style of the performance changes based on the character and type of play. Shidai are played with the kotsuzumi and ōtsuzumi and may be accented by the fue. Shidai are always followed by utaigoto (a part of the play where the utai, the vocals, become the focus). Kyōgen also use shidai for the entrance of the yamabushi, demons and monks, but they are simplified versions of Noh shidai.
