A movement indicating crying – the hand with extended fingers is held slightly in front of the face, covering the eyes as if to hold back falling tears. At the same time, the face is “clouded,” an action in which the face is angled downward and sadness is expressed. This is done with either one or both hands, known as morojiori when done with both hands to express weeping. The Kyōgen performance is more realistic, with audible sobbing.
