One way of wearing a costume. Both shoulders of a mizugoromo or happi are folded into the neck area, and the sleeve is tucked up. The kataage style indicates activity. When a happi or kariginu is worn in the kataage style, paper is stuffed into the sleeves to make the folds more beautifully pronounced. Kataage, or “raised shoulder,” is also known as “taking up the shoulder,” kata wo toru, or kataroru in Japanese.
