In Okina (Shiki Sanban), a play that prays for peace and security of the nation, this is the dance of the character Senzai. It is danced as a prelude to the Okina. It is a bright and refreshing dance made up of two steps, uses a distinctive three-beat rhythm, three kotsuzumi and one flute. In the uegakari schools such as Kanze and Hōshō, the role of Senzai is played by a shitekata, and in the shimogakari schools such as Konparu, Kongoh and Kita, it is played by a kyōgenkata. When the kyōgenkata plays Senzai, the role of the menbakomochi accompanies him.
