The socks worn by kyōgenkata when putting on their costumes. They are made of yellow died cotton, and depending on the kyōgen, may include either vertical stripes or no pattern at all. There are also kawatabi, made of smoke-cured leather, making them the perfect color for the appearance kyōgen characters with a strong sense of the common people or peasantry. However, the shitekata, wakikata, and hayashikata always wear white socks, also worn by the kyōgenkata, kōken and jiutai when not wearing costumes.
