One type of Aikyōgen (ai) performed by the kyōgenkata in Noh. The ai that appears in the beginning of the Noh play sets the location and situation of the play. As this is an important role that sets the mood of the play, the kyōgenkata is taken seriously. Kuchiake, or “opening,” is seen in many modern Noh plays such as Hanjo, Sagi, Kantan and Tsurukame.
