In kyōgen, a movement where the enmaō or devil banishes a dead person to hell. It is played with the flute, kotsuzumi, ōtsuzumi and taiko. It begins with the devil accusing the person of their wrongdoing and telling them to hurry, with the line “hurry, hurry,” spoken in between the motions of the dead person. The devil moves around the stage randomly carrying a bamboo cane, walking to the beat of the music using a rare technique. Seme is performed where the role of the devil appears in plays such as Asahina and Yao, and in plays such as Kujizainin where people practice for festivals.
