Kanjinchō in the Noh play Ataka, Kishōmon in Shōzon, and Gansho in Kiso, and the collective term for the three is yomimono, or “reading,” and together they are known as san-yomimono, or “the three readings.” They are all read with the shite adding verses to the written words, and reading them with the rhythm of the music, making yomimono both beautiful to hear and see. The rhythm differs from traditional vocal in that it changes freely, and as the actors must express their emotions simultaneously, yomimono are extremely difficult and performed with great care as naraimono.
