Within a Noh play, the vocals sung by the jiutai at the very beginning to match the rhythm. However, the jitori sung by the jiutai at a low pitch after the vocals of the shidai are not included in shodō, and parts where the jiutai sings parts traditionally sung by the shite are not considered shodō. After the shodō and between the yaku-utai, there may be a second and third jiutai, known as the ni-nodō and san-nodō, or “second” and “third” nodō. The nochiba-jiutai is known as the nochi-no-shodō.
