A “specialized mask,” or mask worn by a specific character. Noh masks include generalized masks such as the ko-omote worn by young, female actors but not limited to a specific role, and specialized masks, which can only be worn by specific roles, such as the role of Shunkan, Kagekiyo, Yoroboshi, Yorimasa, and Shōjō. Specialized masks in kyōgen include those for the roles of Kitsune, Hakuzōsu, Tanuki and Tsūen.
