Kyahan (脚絆)

Garments over the leg worn by characters who are travellers or workmen. In Kyōgen plays, they use tsutsu-kyahan: a pair of cylindrical material worn over the leg and tied below the knees. Mostly, the colour is black and the material is satin. Gold or other brocade is also used for characters who are gods or devils. A pair of hakama trousers is worn over kyahan. The lower section of the trousers is drawn up and tied below the knees. This style is called "kukuri-bakama."
