A kind of headgear. Shizuka-eboshi refers to eboshi (caps) worn by shirabyōshi (woman dancers), especially the one used by the leading character in "Funa Benkei," Shizuka-gozen (Lady Shizuka). It is a kind of tate-eboshi without a folded top, featuring a gold background and often patterns such as seigaiha (blue ocean wave). Like other eboshi, it is fixed to the head by tying cords of braid under the chin. When the hat is used for Shizuka-gozen in "Funa Benkei," the actor often uses a special technique for tying the braid cord so the headgear can be taken off smoothly on the stage.
