A style of Noh and Kyōgen acting. It is frequently used in the form of a fan or hand pointing forward. Performers do this either by pointing to something specific or as a form without specifying a particular target. There are many variations with many applications, such as adding foot movements or using the left and right hands: “sashikomi/shikake” is a form in which the dancer moves several feet forward while performing sashi; “makizashi” is a form in which the dancer largely turns a fan held in the right hand in front of the body and then points forward; ”sashiwake” is a form in which the dancer indicates to the front left with the left hand, then with the right hand, and turns their body to the front right while drawing a straight line with the right hand.
