Naga-mono (長物)

Stage prop used in Noh and Kyōgen. A weapon with a long handle. In Noh plays, the naginata held by the ghost of Taira-no Tomomori in “Funa Benkei” and the giant sword held by Kumasaka Chōhan in “Eboshi-ori” fall into the category of naga-dōgu. In Kyōgen plays, as well as naginata, actors use spears, two-pronged weapons, rakes, axes and stickles with long handles (nagikama), and saibō (wooden sticks). Also known as naga-dōgu.
