A kind of headgear. A crown used for the role of a noblewoman or a heavenly maiden. The crown itself is made of metal or leather, covered with gold leaf or other material, decorated with delicate and elegant openwork patterns such as arabesques and painted with pigments. For decoration, a yōraku (a string of beads) hangs around the crown. Sometimes a stand symbolising the role, such as a phoenix, sun, moon, or lotus flower, is placed at the top. A crown with strong openwork patterns, such as cloud shapes, is called wa-kammuri (a round crown) and is used mainly for the role of a male deity. A crown with a dragon is called ryūtai, while one with a fox is named kotai, with their use depending on the role.
