Oni-zukin (鬼頭巾)

A kind of costume used for kyōgen plays. A hood worn for the role of an ogre. The part wrapping the head consists of gold brocade or other fabrics with showy colours and patterns. Red-dyed yak hair (from a Tibetan bovine) is implanted along the lower edge of the hood to cover the shoulders and back. Sometimes hair is implanted on the top of the head of the hood. The shape of the top may be round or pointed. It is used together with a “buaku”, an ogre mask, in performances such as “Kubihiki” and “Setsubun”.
