A long-sleeved garment with matching top and bottom worn by male characters. The suō is used for characters with lesser standing than those wearing the hitatare. Many suō are made from hemp cloth with dyed patterns. When only upper half of the suō is worn over an ōkuchi or other type of hakama, a skirt-like garment, it is known as a kakesuō are unlined, and are also often worn by important characters in kyōgen.
