Soga-mono (曽我物)

A collection of Noh plays based on events when early Kamakura-era samurai brothers Soga Jurō Sukenari and Gorō Tokimune defeated their father’s foe Kudō Suketsune. Among the plays of Soga-mono, “Kosode Soga”, “Youchi Soga”, “Chōfuku Soga”, “Zenji Soga” and others have been handed down in existing traditional plays. Many other works were created, but some of these are now lost. Outside Noh, performing arts including Kōwaka-mai, Jōruri, and Kabuki took stories from Soga-mono, with the plays widely loved among both samurai and commoners.
