Hemp tension strings between the heads of tabors and drums are called “shirabe-o”, or more simply “shirabe”. Usually, their colour is amber, but purple was also used in past times, with permission from the Shogun. In such cases, the purple shirabe-o was called shichō, but this is not used in the world of modern Noh.
