The verb “tsuku” is used to indicate overlapping. Noh performers hate overlapping in anything, including character, direction, and costume (in terms of shape, pattern, the colour of items, etc.). If items overlap for some reason, changes are made to the normal direction, costume, etc., to keep the performance fresh.
